The helmet is one of five Minecraft armor pieces that the player can wear. A helmet provides defense against mob attacks.
Helmet Armor comes in five common types:
Helmet Recipe
The helmet recipe is simple and requires 5 of the same ingredient, either: leather, iron, gold or diamond. (Chain helmets are not craftable but can be found in the world.)
To make a helmet place the ingredients in the crafting table as shown below:
Leather Helmet
To make a Leather Helmet place 5 leather in the crafting table.
Chainmail Helmet
The player cannot craft a chainmail helmet. You can purchase a chainmail helmet in a village from the village armorer. Chainmail helmets also drop from armored mobs and in chests.
Iron Helmet
To make an Iron Helmet place 5 iron ingots on the crafting table.
Gold Helmet
Place 5 gold ingots on the crafting table to make a gold helmet.
Diamond Helmet
To make a Diamond Helmet use five diamonds and a crafting table.
Repairing a Helmet
You can repair a helmet at an anvil with additional ingredients of the same type, e.g. leather, iron ingot, gold ingot, diamond. You can also repair a helmet by combining two damaged helmets of the same type in a crafting table.
Equipping a Helmet
To equip a helmet press the E button in the Java Edition or the Inventory Icon in mobile editions. Move your helmet to the helmet armor slot.
Turtle Helmet
The turtle helmet in Minecraft is a piece of armor that provides +2 armor and allows the player to breathe underwater. A turtle helmet is a turtle shell placed in the helmet armor slot. To craft the turtle helmet you need 5 pieces of scute which are dropped from baby turtles. Place 5 scute in a crafting table in the same configuration as other helmet recipes.
How to Make a Helmet in Minecraft
- To make a helmet gather five of the same ingredient:
5 leather, or;
5 iron ingot, or;
5 gold ingot, or;
5 diamond, or;
5 scute (for turtle helmet). - Place the ingredients in a crafting table in the pattern shown below.
